It was the first shared Christmas with the extended family for over 14 years. The Sydney lot travelled up, and we travelled down, to a place about 30 minutes north of Coffs Harbour, and what a place it was.
Of course, there were EVENTS. I cannot help myself and must organise 'memory makers'.
There were three significant days. Dressing the tree (including the children making the crafts I had prepared), Christmas Day and Boxing Day with the spectacular Family Gala extravaganza!
This photo is of all the husbands, with their varied musical equipment. My husband invented the beer bottle harmonica specially for the evening using tools he found around the holiday house.
The house itself was covered in Christmas lights, and was a mere 100 metre walk to the crystal clear river, which alternately ran out to/back from the sea. This made 'river boating' a real possibility, and many an hour was spent catching the currents to the beach or back, in the plastic row boat or blow up wave rocker!
The town itself was simple, and perfect for relaxing. It was the home of a mass Aboriginal slaughter many years ago, and is a sacred place for the local aboriginal tribes. Red Rock is named though, for the majestic rocks in varied shades of red that surround the entrance to the cove.
The five of us girls relived a tragic Expo 88 moment.
Singing "I wanna dance with somebody" by Whitney Houston.
Significantly, this time there were no studios or sound recorders.
Our theme was red and white, quite scandinavian in fact.
I love this bold combination, and these two girls were my fave find of 2009.
Each family were given a bag of reindeer food, so kindly made up for us by the parents of a local school and purchased at their fete. The reindeers would have surely loved rice bubbles, mashed up weetbix, sunflower seeds and a dash of glitter!
The note attached read:
Sprinkle on the lawn at night
The moon will make it sparkle bright
As Santa's reindeers fly and roam
This will guide them to your home.
For all the children, this food alleviated one major concern- that of Santa not being able to find them!
Christmas is over for another year, but 2010 beckons brightly with many exciting and fun things ahead!

5 thoughtful sentiments from YOU!:
Nice. My best friend and I recorded 'These Dreams' at Expo 88. Hee hee. Love the photo of Henri :-)
What a lovely way to let the children know they can still be found!
That house and location look absolutely stunning!
Love the reindeer food, very cute.
what a lovely family holiday/celebration! you obviously had a fun time and lots of memories were made. I have already been online checking out Red Rock. I want to go there for a week this year. What a divine piece of paradise. Thanks for sharing! Kitty x
Christmas holidays are fun, aren't they! Renee- glad to see that daggginess still rules the world! Thank you, Kylie and Kirsten for your comments. Kitty- it really is lovely. That house is 32 Ford St. Agent who manages it is Crown Property Sales in Woolgoolga. It really is beautiful, and FAB for little children with a fence and a boardwalk that runs around the whole house so little ones can ride their little bikes around!
