How to make a Felt Rose

Felt roses are so beautiful, and long lasting!  Here is how you can make one, or a whole posy!, for yourself!
Take a long length of felt (100% wool felt is a good thickness) about 25cm-30cm long and 4cm wide.
On one side of the long edge, sew a gathering stitch for the full length.
When you are done, pull the gather in slightly.  This will begin to curl your felt ready for the rose shape.
On one end, fold one corner towards the gather stitch. (as shown)
Now, tuck it in and begin to roll it up, keeping the roll tight and firm.  Adjust and pull in the gather stitch as you go.
When you are done, your rose head will look like a veil of rose leaves.

Turn it over and use both ends (one by one) of the gather stitch to sew it up tightly.
Finish off by pulling the last bit of thread out of a random place in the rose and cutting it off as close to the felt as you can.  Messy ends are hideous!
Now, stitch the stem onto the rose base with  teeny stitches.
For that added bit of authenticity, add a drop of rose (or rosemary) oil to the centre of the rose.

These flower stems are great, and can be used for so many applications
(flowers, doll  hands, doll templates, fruit stems...)

Enjoy!

Ps I was so surprised today to see that Maryann, from Barefoot Bride (who won the flower posy) had named her giveaway of a delightful cute birdie bag in honour of MamaMoontime.  Thank You!
